Olive Oil For Health And Beauty

The benefits of olive oil are many, it is not only a  great oil to cook with; as it helps with many health issues.  It is  great for natural skin care.

In fact, olive oil is one of the few oils which can be made without chemical processing.

It is also one of the oils some doctors will recommend using to lower fat and calories in your diet.

Olive oil is considered to be another one of natures wonder foods.  It is totally amazing the benefits this simple oil has on our health, and to think, some of us are guilty of avoiding it!

Well, if you have been one of those people, your life has just gotten a little bit easier.

Olive oil and salad.

No need to run a mile from olive oil at the family bbq, and go searching for that bottle of extra light oil, as I myself have done, little knowing the light olive oil had nothing to do with calories, and more to do with harming my health.

Extra Virgin Olive Oil is rich in antioxidants such as chlorophyll, which you find in all dark green leafy vegetables, including supplements wheat grass and barley grass

Olive oil contains vitamin E and is rich in monounsaturated fat, which can help lower cholesterol and may reduce heart disease.  Monounsaturated fat will also lower levels of the bad LDL cholesterol, and blood fats called triglycerides.

You will also find olive oil in many facial, body, and hair products, making them ideal to include into your anti aging regimen.

By including olive oil you help to lower triglyceride levels, and if these levels in a diabetic are high, it puts them at risk for heart disease.  People who are at risk of diabetes or those who are diabetic, are advised to include olive oil into their diets, as it has been shown to also help control blood sugar levels.

By replacing other fats in your diet with olive oil, you can significantly lower the risk of heart attack and lower blood pressure.   It also contains polyphenols, which are powerful antioxidants to help prevent age related diseases.

So which oil should you buy?  There are many different types on the market and you need to be aware of which one you are putting in your trolley.  Don’t look at the price, look at the type of oil you are buying, some things are worth paying extra for.

You can buy Extra Virgin, Virgin, Pure and Extra Light and the difference between them is in the processing.

Extra Virgin Olive Oil is the first pressing of the olive, and extracted with no chemicals.

Best to buy cold pressed, this means minimal heating was used to extract the oil.   Buy one in a dark tinted bottle as this keeps the oil from oxidation, which occurs when exposed to light and of course try to buy organic.

This is a good oil to use on cold foods.

Virgin Olive Oil is from the second pressing of the olive, also buy cold pressed in a dark tinted bottle, good for use in cooking.

Pure Olive Oil has gone through processing, such as filtering and refining (chemically processed).

Extra Light Olive Oil has gone through extensive processing and refining (chemically processed), and only has a very mild flavour.  The word light refers to the color and flavor, not calorie content and it also lacks the natural antioxidants.

Pure and Light Olive Oil are refined with a cheap oil, from what I have read, this is about 95% refined oil with about 5% virgin oil.  Refined oil is mixed with virgin oil for color and flavor, not worth the money you pay for them.

Olive oil for your skin hair and nails

Olive Oils fat composition is very similar to our skin, so you will not suffer from any allergic reaction.  Therefore making it safe to use for everyone.

It is absolutely great to use in the bath, just put in a few tablespoons of olive oil, you can put in some of your favourite essential oil, hop in relax and enjoy!

I usually don’t bother putting anything else into the bath water with the olive oil.  since I have started doing this, my skin has never felt softer.

If your face ever feels a little dry, or just needs some extra softening and moisturizing, massage a small amount of olive oil into your skin.

Did you know, you can also remove your makeup with olive oil, and it does just as good a job as any bought brand.

For dry feet, rub them with olive oil put on a pair of socks and go to bed.  In the morning you will have lovely smooth looking feet.

Soak your fingernails in a bowl with some warm olive oil for about 30 minutes once a week and your nails will become stronger.  This will help tremedously for weak and brittle fingernails.
