Quote Of The Week

Peace of mind comes from not wanting to change others, but by simply accepting them as they are. True acceptance is always without demands and expectations. GERALD G. JAMPOLSKY

Nail Problem

A nail problem can indicate a state of your general health, anti aging for fingernails is just as important as it is for fighting aging for your body.

Fingernail problems affect many and good finger nail health are nails which are smooth and pink, and just like your body, your nails need a good supply of nutrients.

Suffering from finger nail problems, your body is actually prioritizing its nutrient distribution and since your nails are not vital organs, they are usually the first place on the body to be denied vitamin and minerals, if they are needed somewhere else.  Then you usually end up with problems such as; hang nails, ridges, bacterial infections, weak, dry, brittle fingernails and other problems.nail problems2 Nail Problem

Problems are usually caused by, illness, stress, poor diet or dehydration.  Thin fingernails especially on the thumb may indicate an iron and zinc deficiency; fingernails may also become pale and thin.

Brittle fingernails and infections surrounding the skin may also indicate a lack of zinc.  Eat plenty of foods rich in zinc such as; seafood, eggs, chickpeas, lentils and nuts.

A lack of selenium can lead to ridges, while too much selenium can lead to blackened nails.  Grains, cereal and fish are a good source of selenium.

Many people believe that calcium will help promote healthy nails, and calcium supplements are very popular in the belief they will create longer, stronger fingernails. Your fingernails actually contain very small amounts of calcium and this mineral plays little or no part in helping to make your nails stronger.

If you are taking calcium supplements, make sure they contain vitamin D as this helps with calcium absorption in the body, and also look for the amount of elemental calcium, which should be written on the bottle.

Water and soap can also be responsible for many nail problems such as splitting and brittle fingernails.  It is best to always wear cotton lined gloves when washing dishes and cleaning around the house.

Soaking fingernails in warm olive oil for about 15 minutes a day will help strengthen your nails, other oils which are great for keeping your fingernails hydrated are almond oil, solar oil, jojoba, castor and sunflower oil.

Pricking a vitamin E capsule and massaging into your fingernails is also great for helping to strengthen them, and help prevent many finger nail problems.

A lack of moisture can cause all sorts of fingernail problems, make sure you drink plenty of water and always moisturize your hands and nails after washing them.

A nail problem can be overcome with the right care.
