Health Benefits Of Sleep
The health benefits of sleep are well known for helping you look younger, yet many people seem to have trouble sleeping at night.
How to sleep better; don’t have anything with caffeine after 3pm, 2pm is even better, as caffeine can linger in the body hours after you have consumed it, and will keep you awake.
Don’t eat a couple of hours before you go to bed, don’t watch tv, sit at the computer or clean the house.
Don’t drink alcohol before bedtime, even though it will make you feel sleepy, alcohol actually makes it harder for the body to go into a deep sleep, the delta sleep, the sleep you really need.
For a good sleep, always make sure you are sleeping in a dark room, which is not too warm. If you have a digital alarm clock in the room, cover it with something so the light is not shining on you and the room is dark. You want to have no light in the room at all.
The health benefits of sleep, help the body secrete a human growth hormone (HGH), which is great for anti aging. This is the hormone you want to secrete more of, it is very important for not only helping to keep you look younger, this hormone is responsible for helping to improve your skin elasticity.
HGH is triggered by exercise and sleep, the only problem is, you have to get a good nights sleep, and that is usually around 8 hours. Although this does tend to differ from person to person.
The biggest secretion of the human growth hormone is usually about 1 hour into a good sleep. Which is why it is vital you get plenty of good quality sleep, or otherwise this hormone secretion is less, and if this happens too often your health and fitness will be impaired.
If you are having trouble getting to sleep, it is important, especially as you are getting older, to really make an effort to try and look at ways you can turn this around.
There are five stages of sleep; Stage one - the beginning of sleep, this is a very light stage of sleep, and is a period of sleep and being awake.
Stage two - this stage lasts for around 20 min, your heart rate starts to slow down and your body temperature will decrease.
Stage three – during this stage you will drift from a light sleep to a very deep sleep.
Stage four – this is referred to as delta sleep, and it is during this time your body will secrete the important HGH, human growth hormone, necessary for your health, muscle growth and keeping you looking younger. This is a deep sleep.
Stage five - you will usually have your weird and wonderful dreams during this time. This is referred to as REM, rapid eye movement sleep.
A good nights sleep helps to restore and heal the body and improves your memory. Sleep deprivation will leave you feeling cranky and of course, feeling tired. When you are constantly feeling tired, you tend to eat more of the worst foods to eat, which is junk food, because the body tends to crave carbohydrates.
