Good Skin Complexion

Know your skin type to help give you a good skin complexion – this way you are better able to know what to put on it, to help keep you looking young.

Your skin type is determined by your genes, this you get from your parents.  Everyone has a different skin type and no two people are exactly alike.

A person can have both oily and dry skin.  And the amount of oil and perspiration you excrete on a daily basis will also be different from another person.

How much oil your skin produces, depends on your skin type.  There are five basic skin types; normal, oily, dry, combination, and sensitive.

Exposure to sun, wind, over exfoliation and moisturizing, poor eating habits, smoking, medications, health problems, will contribute to the state of your skin as well.

In your later years, it is important to know which type of skin you have, as this is going to help protect your skin from aging.  Know your skin type, and you will have a better understanding of how your skin will react to certain products.

It can be a little confusing trying to figure out exactly what skin type you are .

Skin Types

Normal -this type of skin has an even texture with a supple and smooth surface, without any flaky or greasy areas.  The pores are small and barely visible, and rarely develop spots or blemishes.  The skin has a good balance between oil and moisture content, and never feels dry.

Dry – can have a thin papery texture, and a tendency to easily flake.  It is prone to wrinkles and lines and can feel very tight after each wash.  This skin type has an inability to retain moisture as well as a sufficient production of sebum (natural oils in the skin that lubricants and protects), skin can also age faster.

Oily - skin usually looks greasy, with a course complexion, has large pores, tends to have pimples, acne, blackheads and white heads.  Oily skin is not prone to aging and wrinkling.

Combination – will have oil along forehead, nose and chin, called the T zone.  The rest of the face will be dry, this is the cheeks and around the eyes.  The T zone needs a separate cleaning routine from the rest of the face.

Sensitive – has fine pores, is thin and fine textured, prone to broken capillaries, sunburns easily, and is easily irritated by cosmetics, leaving the skin red and blotchy.

Determine which skin type you are

You will be able to determine which skin type you are, depending on where if any, oil or flaky skin is on the tissue.  For example; if there is oil on tissue from forehead, nose and chin, and fine elsewhere, you have combination skin.

Whatever your skin type, it is essential to stay away from chemicals, alcohol (used in products), and fragrances.  Go for natural, it is the best and only way, to help you have good skin complexion.
