Benefits of Drinking Water
Our bodies need water; it makes up to 70% of our body weight. We need water for hydration (water levels in our body) and health. Without water we would of course dehydrate and our organs would shut down.
We use the water in our bodies for many things, such as; tears, saliva (needed for eating), and sweat (for cooling the body), and we need water to help keep us looking young.
The body will always give signs of when it needs water, you can feel thirsty, have a headache, feel fatigued, dry eyes and mouth, dry lips, loss of appetite, or urine may be dark in colour.
If you don’t drink water when your body is displaying any of these signs, it can affect your thinking and physical performance.

Your body can also give a sign of feeling hungry, when in fact you may actually need to drink water. So instead of eating, try drinking a glass of water first, and you can put off eating something for another hour or so, and help with weight loss.
Smoking and alcohol have a huge effect on the body, if you consume too much alcohol, it will certainly decrease the amount of water in your body. This is that dry feeling in the mouth you get after a night of drinking, and your body is craving water the next day, (obviously had this experience!!).
When exercising, make sure you always sip water during your workout.
I once knew a girl who would come to the gym and workout for an hour or more, and never once would she drink water during her workout, she looked tired, her skin looked aged and lined, and her eyes looked sunken and very dark underneath.
She would always work up a sweat and not replace it with any fluids; I can only imagine she would be aging twice as fast, and who knows what she is doing to herself in the long term.
Water is crucial to our health, and great for those dieting as it helps suppress your appetite, reduces body fat, maintain muscle tone, eliminates toxins and waste, increases energy and has zero calories.
In fact, water is actually responsible for helping cure many ailments such as: alcohol dependency, chronic fatigue syndrome, high blood pressure, diabetes, headaches, colitis, lower back and neck pain, to name a few. Overall it helps to keep your immune system healthy.
Eat foods which have a high water content such as fruits, vegetables and sprouts, and if you are consuming them regularly your body is getting an abundance of water. If you consume a lot of low water content foods (processed foods), your body would obviously be functioning at an unhealthy level.
Every morning upon rising, I drink 2 glasses of lukewarm water; I just heat it up in a pot on the stove. I have been doing this for the past 9 years and I don’t think I have ever missed a morning.
Doing this helps in many ways, first you are getting your digestive system ready for food, it helps hydrate the body after so many hours of sleep, and rids the body of toxins which have stored up over night. It also improves skin tone, and helps maintain weight loss.
The recommended amount of water to drink a day is around 8 glasses. Some days I probably drink two litres and others maybe one litre, if I feel thirsty I drink, I eat lots of fruit in between meals. When I go to the gym I make sure I drink all the water in my water bottle, as well as the 2 glasses first thing in the morning and 3 to 4 cups of green tea.
I usually fill a litre bottle with water, so I can keep track of how much I am drinking.
I don’t spend money on bottled water, but I do have a water filter at home, there is too much hype for me regarding tap water. Whenever I go out, I fill up a small bottle and put it in my handbag.
